Shorebirding by BoatBoth trip times are planned to coinside with tide levels which will cause the shore birds to cluster in large numbers along the viewing route. Expect to see large numbers of common shore birds ie. Oyster Catchers, Marbeled Godwit, Wibrels, and Avocets.Shell Mound Trip Provided by Tide Water ToursShell Mound is a 15 minute ride north from Cedar Key. This trip will visit remote shell bars and beaches along the fringes of the coastal marsh between Cedar Key and the Suwannee River. The trip times are planned to coincide with tide levels which cause the shorebirds to cluster in large numbers along the viewing route. |

Directions To Shell MoundTake highway 24 out of Cedar Key to CR 347, the first paved road on the left after leaving the island. Turn left, go north approximately 2 miles to CR 326. Turn left and go to the end of the road. Continue past the end of the pavement and past campground. Meet Cpt. Doug at the end of the road on the wooden pier.Coastal Marsh Trip Provided by Island Hopper ToursThis trip leaves from the Island Hopper dock at the city marina at Dock Street. You will visit shell bars and remote beaches along the fringes of the coastal marsh south of Cedar Key. This vessel carries a maximum of 20 persons per trip. |
